CEDAW for Change & Women’s Human Rights in Africa Joint Program

Through a special collaboration with WAYEI, the Women and Youth Education Institute in Nigeria, we are pleased to offer a special multi-component women’s human rights advocacy training opportunity for advocates in Africa.

This training program includes:

Our CEDAW for Change Institute at Oxford University, UK, from September 4 – 9, 2023, along with the accompanying online learning pre-training (Aug 2023)

AND

A follow-up training program focused on Promoting and Protecting Women’s Human Rights in Africa at Lead City University, Ibadan, Nigeria from Nov 5 – 8th, 2023.

This program is offered at a special registration rate which includes both programs, and is open to advocates who are residing and working in Africa.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Program Details:

Participants of this joint program will be benefit from learning about international women’s human rights frameworks, mechanisms, and advocacy in both the UN and African regional contexts, by participating in the international components of the program (online and at Oxford University) and WAYEI’s regional training in Nigeria.

Component 1:

The CEDAW for Change is WHRI’s flagship program which explores CEDAW and international women’s human rights frameworks and mechanisms from a feminist advocacy perspective. Capped at a maximum of 25, participants will be drawn from different regions around the world, offering an opportunity for South-to-South knowledge sharing and solidarity-building while learning at Kellogg College, Oxford University, which hosts a world-renowned human rights program. This program also has an online component prior to meeting in-person in Oxford.

Component 2:

WAYEI’s regional program will focus on the African Human Rights system, including the Maputo Protocol, and will look at advocacy in the regional context. This program will be hosted by WAYEI at Lead City University in Ibadan, Nigeria.

To apply for this joint program, you must:

  1. Fill in the full application form HERE.

  2. Commit to participation in both program components – in Oxford, UK and Nigeria.

  3. Be residing in Africa and demonstrate a commitment to working on women’s human rights.  We encourage applications from under-represented groups of women and strive to have a diverse representation of participants within the program.

Note that WAYEI will handle registration and payment for this joint program for selected participants. Payment plans are available. *Please note that registration fees do not cover the cost of travel and accommodations which must be self-funded.
